Sruli Recht
Concrete, horse skin, Kevlar, diamonds, seal fur, Arctic Fox, and the skin of a minke whale's penis.
The answer to what these disparate and slightly uncomfortable materials have in common is the Icelandic designer Sruli Recht.
Recht has been based in the fish-packing district of Reykjavík since 2005. From his studio Vopnabúrið/The Armory he has attracted both praise and controversy, infamously being charged with weapons possession for his 2008 release of The Umbuster.
The studio is a cross-discipline practice caught somewhere between product design, tailoring, and shoe making, and produces one "non-product" every month from bulletproof scarves, to tables to belts and boots.
